Introduction

Seryu Ubiquitous was a member of the Jaegers, formerly a member of the Imperial Police. She was a young girl with a strong (and twisted) sense of justice. She was the owner of the Teigu, "Hekatonkheires" until her death, which also resulted in the destruction of the Teigu.

Appearance

Seryu was a young woman with auburn hair and amber eyes. During her first appearance, she wore her hair in a long ponytail that almost reached the ground, but it was shortened to shoulder-length after becoming a member of the Jaegers. She was typically seen in a military uniform in favor of dresses and casual wear, and was frequently attired in upper-body armor. Her arms are metallic in place of flesh due to the heavy body modifications performed upon her by Dr. Stylish. When not in her military uniform, she was typically seen wearing a green coat or dress, sometimes with a white skirt underneath.

When in battle and speaking about justice, her face can distort into a warped and demented smile, which has become her trademark over time.

Personality

Although Seryu initially appeared as a kind and compassionate person, she is actually a ruthless, psychotic, sadistic and unstable person who seems to enjoy killing to a high extent those of whom she considered to be evil, almost as if it was a hobby.

She has a strong fixation upon "justice", originating from her father's service in the Imperial Army and subsequent death. She also highly respected Ogre the Demon, her superior and teacher, and was heavily anguished by his death as well. Her opinion of justice is blunt, as she believes Night Raid is evil for their actions as assassins, but believes killing in service to justice is always right, which ultimately makes her opinion of murder similar to that of Tatsumi and Chelsea's, if not completely the same.

SeryusTwistedPersonality

Seryu revealing her twisted personality as she calls in her reinforcements

Seryu had a twisted sense of right and wrong, bordering on a completely black and white view of the world: seeing the authority of the immensely-corrupt Empire as absolutely right, and its enemies as pure evil. She was fully committed to her duties and relished fighting for the imperials. Her twisted view of justice caused a level of distrust towards her by her own teammates, as well as the entire imperial forces on occasion, as she brutally murdered a group of captured prisoners before her team could interrogate them.

This sense of right and wrong is so twisted that she lacks mercy of any kind. She has stated that evil deserves no mercy, which is ironic, as that is the one thing which separates justice from vengeance or even common murder.

She was also willing to go behind the back of her captain to satiate her bloodlust. Despite her show of loyalty and respect to Esdeath, Seryu planned on killing Tatsumi as well as Mine and simply intended to say that she couldn't help herself, despite knowing quite well that this would be going against orders, as Esdeath wanted them captured alive, not dead.

Seryu was also shown to be hypocritical. On her first mission in the Jaegers, she said that justice always fights fair and square, along with attacking head-on, but in her fight against Night Raid, she used rather underhanded means to try and win. Using a hidden gun in her mouth, she paralyzed Sheele so Koro could kill her. She also tried to kill Tatsumi and Mine from afar using her long-range weapons with no warning, basically performing a sneak attack to kill them, which would have worked had Mine not caught the scent of gunpowder.

Seryu was ultimately convinced that she is doing the right thing in what she does, but her actions tend to be far more brutal and insidious than those of the people she believes to be evil, as her sense of righteousness is completely warped. As noted by Mine, she is completely ignorant of the fact that Ogre and Stylish were themselves evil, the former having framed many people for crimes and had them hanged, while the latter used humans for experiments without any moral reserve. She also has a nasty habit of showing her trademark "crazy face" every time she engages an enemy. After mocking Mine about her two comrades who were devoured by her Teigu and proceeding to say that she'd suffer the same fate, Mine ultimately stated that Seryu is nothing but insane and needed to be put down for the sake of the world without her in it.

However, Seryu also seemed to have some limits, respecting her credibility on the Empire's benevolence, despite being in the same field. She seemed to despise Bolic due to his mistreatment of Path of Peace's female members and for being arrogant. When she presented herself in a calm way, Seryu was eager to help out people in need. She was often seen idolizing her superiors and showing deep sorrow upon hearing the news of their deaths. Seryu was also noted to at least take into consideration the lives of civilians during her battles, as shown where prior to engaging Mine and Tatsumi, she made sure to check the surrounding area for the presence of any other humans to insure no one got killed due to crossfire. Overall, taking into account her simplistic view of the world, hero-worship, and sometimes childish behavior, Seryu has quite an immature personality with a streak of emotional instability.

During her final moments, she showed no remorse for her actions, and only laments that she doesn't want to die until she had cleansed the world of all evil, completely ignoring the fact that she herself is the evil one, who is clearly beyond redemption.

She has stated a dislike for dressing up during parties or the like, which coincides with her somewhat-tomboyish personality.

History

Seryu was willing to go to the extent of allowing Dr. Stylish to implant weapons into her body in order to better punish those she considers evil. Her mentor and superior, Captain Ogre, and her father were part of the Imperial Police and both met their ends at hands of revolutionaries, causing Seryu's extreme thirst for punishing evil. She was often seen with her pet dog Koro, which is actually a biological Teigu. She briefly met Tatsumi, and was unaware of the fact that he is a member of Night Raid. Later, she encountered Sheele and Mine and a confrontation occurred. After having her forearms cut off by Sheele, she revealed two hidden guns implanted within her arms and proceeded to shoot Sheele, but she deflects the gunshot and slices off the guns. Koro goes berserk, grabbing Mine and nearly crushing her to death. When Sheele rescues Mine, Seryu fires a shot from a gun concealed in her mouth at Sheele, wounding her fatally, as Koro devours her while Mine manages to escape alive.

As a result, both Mine and Tatsumi had an intense desire to kill Seryu. When Tatsumi is abducted by Esdeath and brought to the Jaegers' HQ, Seryu recognized him from earlier, and attempted to touch him. Tatsumi felt intense rage toward Seryu for the death of Sheele, and did not want to be friendly with her, but puts on an act in order to conceal his true identity. Later, when the Jaegers were ordered to clear out a group of bandits, Seryu unveiled more of her weaponry, killing dozens of bandits with the help of Koro.

After the death of Dr. Stylish, a depressed and grieving Seryu is comforted by Esdeath, showing a rare level of compassion from the ruthless sadist. She laments losing someone close to her a second time, vowing to kill all the members of Night Raid.

During the mission to pursue Night Raid, she was placed in a three-man team with Esdeath and lured away by a ploy of Najenda, ultimately parting her from her comrades and allowing Night Raid to kill Bols and nearly kill Kurome. She had Koro devour the body, minus the head, of the only Night Raid member to fall after the incident, Chelsea.

Following their orders from the Minister and also their lead on Night Raid, the Jaegers then came to the capital of the Path of Peace. Meeting with their charge, Bolic, she voiced that Night Raid, as Teigu users, could only be defeated by other Teigu users and was against the idea of letting the Four Rakshasa Demons confront them. Later on, she was seen playing with a group of children on Esdeath's advice to relax on her time off.

Mine splits Seryu in two

Mine bifurcates Seryu with Pumpkin

When three of the Rakshasa Demons fell and the lone survivor, Suzuka, became more closely grouped to the Jaegers as a result, Seryu and Suzuka arrive at the abandoned valley and spot what the latter believed to be enemies, who later turned out to be Mine and Tatsumi. Seryu becomes angered seeing Tatsumi with Night Raid, who she believes to be "consumed" into working with them, but vows to kill him nonetheless along with all of Night Raid. Seryu attacked the duo with a volley, however they survived thanks to Mine smelling the scent of her gunpowder. Tatsumi then went after Suzuka to eliminate the final Rakshasa Demon while Mine faces off against Seryu.

As they confront each other, Seryu vowed to deliver justice on to her personally, while Mine vows to kill her to not only avenge Sheele, but to remove her evil from this world. Taking advantage of her dangerous situation with two against one, Mine used Pumpkin's increased power to attack and blast Koro apart, leaving Seryu stunned at this boost power of hers, as she nearly destroys his core, until Seryu has Koro enter his trump card; Berserker, as he did during the previous fight with Mine and Sheele. However, due to her knowledge of its powers gained in their previous fight, Mine proved much more formidable against Koro's abilities and wears earplugs to negate his roars, wearing itself down while Seryu took on Mine alone.

During their last battle, Seryu uses all of her weapons to attack Mine, who effortlessly destroys it all and shoots Seryu in the abdomen, much to her anger, as she uses her lighting-speed punches to nearly beat Mine to death, but fails to finish her off because of the shots she received. She and Koro attempt to attack her on both sides, but Mine, thinking of her fallen friends, Sheele and Chelsea, finally uses Pumpkin's trump card and bifurcates both Koro and Seryu, avenging them. Unwilling to accept defeat, Seryu's final act was to detonate the bomb inside of her body in a last-ditch attempt to kill Mine. This ultimately failed, as Tatsumi managed to pull Mine out of the blast radius, leaving Seryu and Koro to be engulfed and incinerated by the blast.

Equipment and Skills

Seryu was shown to be an incredibly gifted and talented fighter with immense potential. Seryu herself was shown to be a quick study and a fast learner when it came to acquiring new techniques or adapting to the physical modifications done to her body by Dr. Stylish, as seen where she was able to easily master the ability to completely erase her presence completely in only a matter of days by simply focusing on her desire to locate and kill Night Raid members and later was noted by Dr. Stylish to have quickly adapted to the immense physical changes done to her body and master her new equipment within a short amount of time.

Her overall potential was noted and acknowledged by the war crazy, Great General Esdeath, further alluding to her power.

Teigu

Seryu possessed a biological Teigu called Hekatonkheires which she named Koro. It was capable of growing to incredible monstrous version of itself on command, and extending its mouth open to reveal many rows of razor-sharp fangs. It also seemed to be extremely durable due to its great regeneration abilities, being able to regenerate even after being blasted with Pumpkin's enhanced firepower. It could also grow out its arms into massive proportions to annihilate its enemies. Koro's trump card, titled Berserker, greatly enhances its physical abilities and could stun opponents by roaring, although it apparently overheated after using this skill.

Marksmanship & Body Modifications

Like Mine, she was skilled in marksmanship, proficient in a wide array of long-range artillery combat, most prominently the Judgement of the Ten Heavenly Kings with the gun installed in her mouth she accurately shot Sheele from a considerably far distance. During her battle with Mine and Sheele, she is shown to have a pair of tonfas that have been modified to shoot bullets.

As a result of wanting to become stronger faster, Seryu was sent to and experimented on by Dr. Stylish, Where initially she could shoot bullets from her mouth via hidden gun as a result of one of the many body modifications she had undergone. Furthermore, when her arms were severed, two guns were revealed to have been placed within her upper limbs for combat use. These were removed by Sheele during their battle and later repaired by Dr. Stylish. Where after being given artificial mechanical arms after their repair, she was able to detach them at will to use the guns freely.

Physical Abilities

Seryu was shown to have considerable skill in martial arts, as she was trained by Ogre in this aspect, being able to take out Mine fairly quickly with quick strikes. Her martial arts training made her physically strong enough to create a crater on a street with a kick as shown when she ambushes Mine and Sheele. Seryu had an exceptional pain tolerance, being able to withstand all of Stylish's extremely painful body modification experiments, having her forearms severed, she quickly shrugs off the extreme pain to reveal the guns hidden in her arms and a direct shot to the abdominal area. Ultimately she could survive being bifurcated by Pumpkin's trump card long enough to activate Chakravartin Furnace of Five Hells.

Judgement of the Ten Heavenly Kings

Stored inside of her Hekatonkeires, Seryu possesses the "Judgement of the Ten Heavenly Kings", ten powerful weapons which function as modifications to her body. She often swaps these weapons around in combat using Koro's main body and, as noted by Mine, they're incredibly powerful despite not being Teigu. They were created by Dr. Stylish, as such his death keeps Seryu from modifying or upgrading them, but she does know how to perform general repair and maintenance on them.

  • Number 1: Shinkou's Ball of Justice - A large flail that can take down a large number of opponents.
  • Number 2: Four missile turrets that can be used to send out a volley of missiles.
  • Number 3: Sung Dynasty Blade - A large sword with a giant blade attached directly to Seryu's arm.
  • Number 4: Unnamed Hook-shot
  • Number 5: Enma's Spear of Justice - A large drill-like spear that is capable of mowing down a large number of opponents. It can be launched to be used as a long-range attack. It can also explode if necessary.
  • Number 6: A giant armor reinforced missile that explodes on impact.
  • Number 7: Taizan's Cannon of Justice - A long-ranged anti-tank rifle with high destructive power.
  • Number 8: An arm which launches missiles. It was used during her Justice Volley Fire.
  • Number 9: Justice City Detector - An arm with a radar that detects living beings in a certain area.
  • Final number: Chakravartin Furnace of Five Hells - A last resort in the event of her defeat she has an explosive device implanted in her head. The explosion triggered by this suicide attack was easily enough to fill the small valley in which she and Mine had fought their final battle. The destructive power it possesses was proportionately intense, laying waste to the surrounding environment.

Alternative Techniques

  • Justice Execution: She detaches her mechanical arms to reveal a gun within each of them. Alternatively, she shoots a bullet from the gun installed in her mouth.
  • Justice Volley Fire: She bombards her enemies with numbers 2, 7 and 8 of her Judgement of the Ten Heavenly Kings.

Trivia

  • Ubiquitous means to exist or to be everywhere, especially at the same time.
  • Her measurements were 82-54-84.
  • In the anime adaption, her eye color is amber, however, on the cover of Volume 8 of the manga, illustrated by Tetsuya Tashiro, her eye color is red.
